ABOUT MY SCAN
How to arrange an ultrasound scan
Obstetric and Gynaecological Ultrasound is a private specialist ultrasound practice.
You will need to be referred by either your GP or Obstetrician/Gynaecologist.
Please remember to bring this referral with you to your appointment.
Preparation for an ultrasound
This varies depending on the type of scan:
Gynaecological scans are usually performed as an internal vaginal ultrasound examination.
These do NOT require a full bladder or any other preparation.
If however you do NOT wish to have your scan done internally, you will need to arrive with a full bladder
(drink 2-4 glasses (approx. 600mL-1L) of water or non-fizzy fluid within the hour before
your appointment and try not to empty your bladder until after your scan.)
Early pregnancy scans (<13 weeks gestation) are also usually performed internally,
and thus do not require a full bladder or any special preparation.
Routine 19-20 week pregnancy ultrasounds - please drink 2 glasses of water or non-fizzy fluid
within the hour before your appointment and try not to empty your bladder until after your scan.
Later pregnancy scans (>22 weeks) - No preparation necessary
Cost
This varies depending on the type of scan or how advanced in pregnancy you are.
Please ask our staff about our fees when you ring to make your appointment.
We discount fees for patients with valid health care, pension and student cards and to patients
who have had multiple scans with us in the same pregnancy, however we do NOT bulk bill.
Payment is due on the day of your scan and most patients will be eligible for a Medicare rebate.
Rebate amounts quoted are subject to the provision of a valid referral and are based on 85% of Medicare Schedule fee.
We accept EFTPOS, credits cards (MasterCard, Visa), as well as cash. We do not accept cheques.
Results of ultrasounds
You will be informed of the findings either during or immediately following the scan.
You are encouraged to ask any questions about the examination.
A written report of the examination is posted to your doctor on the day of the ultrasound.
Urgent results will be faxed or emailed to your doctor and if necessary,
direct telephone contact will be made with your doctor.
Parking
There is ample free car parking on our grounds.
Video tapes / DVDs of examinations
Video tapes or DVDs may be provided as an optional extra.
They are supplied and recorded by the practice on request, for an additional $15.00 (includes GST).
Please inform the receptionist on your arrival if you wish to have a video or DVD recording of your pregnancy ultrasound.
If you have a previously recorded video tape from our practice this can be re-used at a later scan at no cost,
as long as the tape is set at the point ready for additional recording.
DVDs can only be recorded on once, therefore cannot be reused.
Due to the sensitive nature of our equipment we do not accept video tapes or DVDs provided by patients, new or otherwise.
